About Zagroda

About us

„Leave it all behind and go to Bieszczady” – in our case it did happen. We were thinking very long how our life should look like. Work in an international enterprise, fast city life, home building plans – a classical scheme. When our toddlers, Kalina and Aleksander came, the world has transformed completely. We wanted to slow down, live free and live in our own way. We wanted to watch our children growing up. Following our hearts we headed for the East, to Bieszczady and we stayed here. We both come from open homes and therefore we love people – it is also how our homestead (Zagroda) looks like. We try hard to give them the best we can – delicious home food, preserves, tinctures, local healthy food and also the warmth of home and closeness with the Queen of Bieszczady – the Nature. We hope that everyone who comes here would keep these memories among other unique memories of Bieszczady…

History

The Zagroda Magija is a place created of love for the regional tradition and wooden architecture. Surrounded by forests and meadows, full of calmness, it allows make a deep breath and rewind. All huts, besides the Granary (Spichlerz) are original buildings, saved from oblivion.

The Larch Hut (Modrzewiowa) was the first building moved here. It was built in 1908 and it looks like someone was still living there. In the middle of the living room there was a 19th century piano, and a bookshelf on the side with old editions of Mickiewicz, Sienkiewicz and other Polish renown writers, issued before the War. There were several beautifully decorated furniture pieces of that time which, preserved, serve us until today.

The Fir Hut (Jodłowa) was the next hut which came here. It was found in 2005 in Haczów. The house was astonishing. The decision was made very quickly. Tile after tile, log after log, with great care, deconstructed and built again. A house with its own life course and a soul is now writing the rest of its history, this time intermingled with our life…

In the Wesoła (pol.merry) village, there stood a barn, over 150 years old, covered with thatch. The idea of a Merry Barn quickly came to life – a venue for workshops, rare traditional professions, meetings, concerts and a space for all the objects collected for years. In 2008 the Barn was placed in Orelec, by the forest border, near the stream. The Granary is the only not original building, however it still has an undeniable charm. Its original can be admired The Building Museum in Sanok. It adorns the Zagroda from 2015.

The hut of the farmers was built by the end of the 19th century. It is a house filled with the history of a multicultural Lesko , and people of many cultures and religions dwelled there. Old photographs, documents found in the attic are the only souvenirs of those times. This hut was moved to the Zagroda Magija in 2011.
